Manager, Commercial Solution Engineering
Leads and coaches a Commercial Solution Engineering team while remaining hands-on in technical pre-sales, demos, discovery, and executive engagements. Requires pre-sales experience, direct people management, strong SQL and data-platform expertise, and partnership with sales to grow revenue.

Responsibilities
- Hire, ramp, coach, and performance-manage Commercial Solution Engineers.
- Create individual development plans and maintain a pipeline of qualified SE candidates.
- Step into discovery calls, demos, roadmap presentations, customer calls, and executive meetings as needed.
- Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and channel partners to develop territory strategy and grow revenue.
- Represent Solution Engineering in forecasting, pipeline, and deal-strategy discussions.
- Coach consultative, customer-problem-focused engagements and review discovery sessions, demos, and proofs of concept.
- Collaborate with Product and Marketing so SE feedback informs roadmap and messaging.
- Set quarterly and annual team objectives and manage capacity planning and deal coverage.
- Ensure the quality of RFP/RFI, technical, and security responses.
Requirements
- 4–5+ years of experience as a Solution Engineer, Sales Engineer, or similar pre-sales technical professional, ideally in business intelligence, analytics, or data platforms.
- 1–5 years of direct management experience leading technical or customer-facing teams and coaching individuals.
- Strong data background, including SQL, cloud data warehouses, and modern BI/analytics tooling.
- Experience partnering with sales leadership to grow revenue in a defined territory or segment.
- Ability to present to and build relationships with VP- and C-level audiences.
- Experience building and maintaining a hiring pipeline.
- Excellent organization and multitasking skills in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent technical and business experience.
- Willingness to travel 25%.

- Experience scaling a Solution Engineering or technical pre-sales team during hypergrowth.
- SaaS or cloud architecture experience.

- ETL experience with Fivetran, Matillion, or traditional ETL.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $170,000–$195,000 annually.
- Eligible for variable pay based on goal achievement and stock options.
