Ghost jobs. Tech salaries. Entry-level tech. Remote work. AI jobs.

Four columns of stacked job-listing cards, growing taller left to right as employer pay rises. The pale green block of remote roles at the top of each column stays roughly the same size while the charcoal block of onsite roles grows beneath it.

Do remote jobs pay less? Yes, 13% less, and remote work isn't the reason

Remote engineering listings advertise about 13% below onsite ones. Sort tech employers by what they pay and the reason shows up immediately: the lowest-paying quarter post half their roles remote, the highest-paying quarter post under a third. Inside any one company, remote and onsite pay the same to within a couple of percent.

What it means when a job is reposted: data from 2,190 recycled listings

We tracked 2,190 tech job listings that were removed and reposted with a fresh date over 11 weeks. The median repost made the listing look 53 days newer than the search really is. Here is what a repost actually signals, and how to treat one.

Editorial illustration on a warm off-white background: five stacks of rectangular job-listing cards arranged left to right as an uneven staircase. The leftmost stack is a single small amber card sitting alone on the floor. The next four stacks are dark charcoal, each taller and wider than the last. A dashed amber line cuts horizontally across the image at the height of the lone entry-level card, marking the level the upper stacks tower over.

Only 1 in 10 tech engineering jobs is entry-level

Across 9,338 tech engineering listings posted to Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and other supported ATSes since February 28, 2026, just 11% are open to entry-level engineers. Senior, staff, and principal listings outnumber entry-level ones more than 5 to 1. Of 224 high-volume tech employers in our index, 28% posted zero entry-level listings at all.

One in three tech jobs is still up 60 days after posting

Across 13,434 tech listings from Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, and other ATSes, one in three was still live 60 days after posting and one in eight was still live after 90 days. The worst concentrations: hardware engineering, AI-adjacent roles, and onsite work.
