Senior Engineering Manager, Estimation
Leads the engineering organization and roadmap for Hover’s estimating product, managing a six-engineer team while guiding architecture, pricing logic, enterprise customer delivery, and team growth. Requires 10+ years of software engineering experience and 4+ years managing engineering teams.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Own the roadmap for Hover’s estimating product line end to end, defining connected retail and restoration/insurance claims use cases without forking the product, roadmap, or team.
- Directly manage the Estimates team, currently six engineers, and partner with product, design, and data teams.
- Lead the move to a flexible estimating engine that accepts inputs from inspections and assessments without duplicating logic by use case.
- Reduce maintenance costs by consolidating the existing estimates system into the main application and removing legacy functionality.
- Partner with the catalog team to build a standalone pricing function so estimates can carry their own pricing.
- Work directly with enterprise customers to shape the product roadmap.
- Hire and develop the team as scope expands.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years managing engineering teams.
- Experience owning a product line’s roadmap rather than executing another leader’s plan.
- Experience hiring and leveling employees, coaching senior engineers, conducting performance conversations, and promoting people into larger roles.
- Experience managing more than one team or focus area simultaneously.
- Experience managing engineers who have built systems involving pricing, configuration, or rules logic.
- Strong technical depth and the ability to make and defend architecture decisions.
- AI fluency, including a point of view on generative tooling in engineering workflows, rollout strategy, and measuring effectiveness.
Nice-to-Haves
- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, TypeScript, GraphQL federation, or Postgres.
- Experience with estimating, quoting, CPQ, or catalog and pricing platforms.
- Experience taking a product from early traction to production use by enterprise customers.
- Experience with partner, distributor, or third-party integration ecosystems.
- Background in construction, roofing, restoration, or insurance claims software, including carrier-side estimating and claims acceptance standards.
- Experience building on 3D, spatial, or computer-vision-derived data.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $227,000–$280,000 annually.
- Meaningful equity.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
- Unlimited and flexible paid time off.
- Paid parental and new-child bonding leave.
- Monthly mandatory self-care days.
- Fitness classes, meditation and mindfulness tools, virtual therapy, and family planning assistance.
- Coverage for management training, conferences, workshops, and certifications.
- Employees living within 50 miles of a Hover hub are expected to work from the local office at least three times per week.
