Professional Services - Technical Architect
Leads customer-facing GitLab Professional Services engagements from architecture and discovery through implementation, migrations, and handoff. Responsibilities
- Lead the technical direction and full delivery lifecycle of Professional Services engagements, from scoping and discovery through implementation and handoff.
- Design high-level and detailed architectures and implementation plans for GitLab infrastructure and functionality in self-managed, cloud, and on-premises environments.
- Deploy and configure GitLab using infrastructure-as-code practices and tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and the GitLab Environment Toolkit.
- Lead source-code-management and CI/CD migrations to GitLab, including enterprise migrations using Congregate.
- Evaluate scalability, security, compliance, performance, data integrity, and other trade-offs in proposed architectures and migration plans.
- Provide DevOps and DevSecOps consulting and best-practice guidance, including GitLab Flow and the Delivery Governance Framework.
- Coordinate implementation work across GitLab teams, partners, and customer stakeholders in a remote, asynchronous environment.
- Create reusable delivery kits, documentation, training materials, presentations, case studies, and best-practice methodologies.
- Mentor Professional Services and partner consultants and lead enablement sessions.
- Maintain delivery automation assets, emphasizing maintainability, testing, and code review.
- Support Statement of Work creation, technical vetting, staffing assessments, and Professional Services training materials.
- Maintain approximately 55% billable utilization and travel up to 50% at times.
Requirements
- UK-based remote worker.
- Experience delivering at least two of the following: source-code-management migration, cloud architecture, DevOps engineering, or CI/CD consulting.
- Enterprise software development experience, translating requirements into technical designs and implementation plans.
- Experience designing and implementing reliable, scalable systems with performance and security trade-offs.
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing infrastructure in cloud-provider and on-premises environments.
- Experience with Terraform, Ansible, and automation or integration code, including appropriate testing and code review.
- Experience migrating to GitLab using Congregate or similar tooling.
- Working knowledge of data consistency and integrity concepts, including ACID properties.
- Strong customer-facing written and verbal communication, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently across time zones using documented decisions, issues, proposals, and runbooks.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or another advanced technical field, or equivalent experience.
