Responsibilities
- Lead sprint delivery for a team of 6–12 engineers, including planning, dependency management, risk tracking, and release readiness.
- Sequence work across engineers and AI-assisted workflows; maintain JIRA, ProductBoard, and dependency trackers.
- Track cycle time and escaped defects, and own improvement trends.
- Review code and AI-generated output for correctness, problem fit, and quality.
- Define human sign-off, spot-checking, and second-pass review requirements.
- Write specifications with clear scope, constraints, and boundaries.
- Contribute to architecture decisions, technical debt management, incident response, and patent writing.
- Conduct growth-focused 1:1s, coach engineers on AI-assisted development, provide feedback, and create development plans.
- Address performance issues, calibrate hiring panels, provide written interview feedback, and participate in calibration discussions.
- Partner with Product Management and Design to define readiness criteria and surface risks.
- Handle escalations, produce root-cause analyses, and own P1/P2 support SLAs.
- Drive cross-team technical decisions through influence and support team accountability, recognition, workload awareness, and wellbeing.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years managing teams of 5 or more.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Architectural depth sufficient to evaluate technical tradeoffs, including AI-assisted output.
- Experience in platform, API, data, or infrastructure engineering.
- Experience working in Product Management and Design pod environments.
- Proficiency with JIRA and ProductBoard or equivalent tools.
- Strong foundations in data structures, design patterns, and object-oriented programming.
- Proficiency in Python or Java.
- Strong knowledge of distributed systems, data pipelines, or APIs.
Nice to Have
- Experience leading a platform or infrastructure team serving internal engineering customers.
- Experience coaching an individual contributor through a meaningful promotion.
- Experience with AI-assisted engineering workflows and practical output review.
- Experience collaborating across time zones.
