Authorization Supervisor

Own and scale the authorization function for a complex healthcare pre-bill operation, including denial-trend management, workflow automation, team leadership, and payer partnerships. The role requires healthcare authorization or billing experience, people management, analytical ability, and comfort with SQL-driven processes.

Responsibilities

  • Own the authorization-denial pipeline at the trend level, identifying root causes across payers and driving systemic resolution.
  • Build and maintain automated workflows that reduce manual authorization work.
  • Manage and develop the authorization team, including staffing, quality audits, and productivity standards.
  • Own key partner relationships for authorization-specific issues, escalations, and process improvements.
  • Represent authorization in cross-functional discussions with payer partnerships.
  • Partner with Billing, Eligibility, and Coding to resolve authorization issues and escalate systemic trends.
  • Prepare the function for new frameworks and partnerships as the company expands.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in authorization, utilization management, patient access, or medical billing.
  • At least 1 year of people management experience.
  • SQL fluency or the ability to ramp up quickly; comfort directing and verifying data-driven automated workflows.
  • Analytical ability to identify denial trends across payers.
  • Experience managing external partner relationships and professional escalations.
  • Process-oriented approach to building repeatable workflows for a high-volume, complex function.
  • Adaptability in a fast-moving, partially built environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • VA Community Care Network or other government payer authorization experience.
  • Employee Assistance Program experience, including Cigna or Octave.
  • Experience building or scaling an operational function from an ad hoc or manual state.
  • Hands-on SQL or workflow-automation experience.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base compensation: $74,880–$84,240 USD annually.
