Senior Customer Engineer, SLED West
Own the technical customer lifecycle for SLED and local government accounts, from discovery and architecture through adoption, renewal, and expansion. The role requires public-sector expertise, broad security and cloud knowledge, strong executive communication, and commercial accountability.

Responsibilities
- Partner with Account Executives to lead technical discovery, design bespoke architectures, and deliver product demonstrations and proofs of concept across security, networking, and developer platforms.
- Lead or oversee technical onboarding and implementation, serving as the primary executive and engineering contact.
- Own technical health, risk, adoption, renewal, and expansion strategy throughout the customer lifecycle.
- Monitor customer health scores and telemetry, resolve integration bottlenecks, and accelerate time to value.
- Carry a variable quota tied to new business acquisition and account growth.
- Identify cross-sell and upsell opportunities based on product usage data.
- Lead technical quarterly business reviews and communicate return on investment to executive stakeholders.
- Automate RFP and security questionnaire responses, sandbox provisioning, and telemetry monitoring with AI-augmented workflows.
Requirements
- Experience working with or selling into SLED, local government, or municipal agencies.
- Experience in a customer-facing technical role such as solutions engineering, customer engineering, sales engineering, or forward deployed engineering.
- Broad expertise in web security, networking, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise architecture.
- Experience in quota-carrying or revenue-aligned environments and familiarity with SaaS metrics and public-sector sales cycles.
- Exceptional presentation and stakeholder-management skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Cloudflare Workers AI, AI Gateway, or Vectorize.
- Prompt engineering, large language model orchestration, or retrieval-augmented generation experience.
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or similar languages for integration scripts, API connectors, and edge-computing functions.
Compensation and Benefits
- San Francisco-based hires: estimated annual salary of $231,000-$290,000+ OTE, base plus commissions.
- Los Angeles-based hires: estimated annual salary of $221,000-$267,000 OTE, base plus commissions.
- Eligible to participate in Cloudflare’s equity plan.
