Field Engineer, Public Sector
Partners with public-sector customers and account executives to evaluate and adopt AI-powered coding tools through technical discovery, demonstrations, proofs of concept, and workshops. Requires strong technical fluency, executive communication, customer-facing deal experience, and eligibility for a federal security clearance.

Responsibilities
- Partner with account executives to own technical discovery, demonstrations, proofs of concept, and technical validation for new and expansion deals.
- Build trusted relationships with engineering, security, product, and IT stakeholders.
- Work in mission-critical and high-security environments involving developer workflows, AI tooling, and complex or constrained setups.
- Help customers connect Cursor to outcomes including developer productivity, secure software delivery, and mission velocity.
- Deliver technical presentations, whiteboards, and workshops to technical and executive audiences.
- Advocate for customer needs internally with Product and Engineering.
- Partner with post-sales teams to ensure clean handoffs and successful onboarding.
Requirements
- Strong communication skills and executive presence; comfortable developing alongside engineers and presenting to CTOs, CISOs, and program leaders.
- Understanding of the software development life cycle and ability to connect technical details to mission and operational impact.
- Hands-on technical fluency with developer workflows, AI tooling, and complex or constrained environments.
- Strategic deal-partner instincts, including co-owning opportunities with account executives and navigating complex, multi-threaded stakeholder groups.
- Experience in field engineering, solutions architecture, pre-sales, or consulting, ideally in federal, defense, or highly regulated technology.
- Interest in Public Sector and ability to quickly learn agency buying motions, security expectations, and partner ecosystems.
- Hold or be able to obtain a federal security clearance; active clearance is a plus.
