Senior Financial Crimes Compliance Controls Strategist

Build and own Ramp’s financial-crimes controls-effectiveness framework, including testing, monitoring, remediation, and AI-enabled workflows. Partner with Product, Engineering, Design, and Data teams to embed risk-based BSA/AML and sanctions controls into strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Own financial-crimes compliance (FCC) controls effectiveness across manual procedures, detection rules, workflow controls, automation deployments, and AI/LLM-enabled capabilities.
  • Establish standards for testing, evidence retention, issue identification, remediation tracking, and ongoing control monitoring.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Design, and Data teams on major initiatives, translating FCC requirements into scalable workflows, controls, and user experiences.
  • Own FCC’s internal AI and automation strategy, including identifying use cases and ensuring AI-enabled workflows are tested, documented, monitored, and subject to appropriate human oversight.
  • Use financial-crimes expertise, data, and analytical methods to evaluate risk coverage, identify emerging risks or control gaps, and drive improvements.
  • Serve as an independent secondary reviewer for FCC compliance reviews when segregation of duties or heightened review is required.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in financial-crimes compliance, AML/BSA, or sanctions.
  • 3+ years in technical compliance, controls, compliance testing, quality assurance, or a similar role.
  • 3+ years as an AML or financial-crimes trusted advisor partnering with technical, operational, product, or business stakeholders.
  • Experience developing, implementing, or evaluating controls across manual and technology-enabled processes.
  • Deep understanding of financial-crimes typologies and evolving risks across products, payment flows, customer types, and operational processes.
  • AI fluency, including independent use of approved AI tools, critical assessment of output quality and limitations, and leadership of AI and automation initiatives in compliance.
  • Strong data-analysis skills to assess control performance, evaluate AI/LLM-enabled controls, identify trends or gaps, and partner with technical teams.
  • Experience presenting testing results, control documentation, risk findings, or program materials to regulators, examiners, auditors, or bank partners.
  • ACAMS certification or equivalent financial-crimes certification.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort operating autonomously and building structure in a new, evolving role.

Nice to Have

  • Experience evaluating or implementing AI, machine learning, LLM, automation, or decisioning controls in a regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting fintech, payments, banking, card, or money-transmission compliance programs.
  • Experience designing controls for transaction monitoring, KYC/KYB, EDD, sanctions screening, suspicious-activity reporting, or payment-risk workflows.
