Senior Engineering Manager, Commerce Platform
Leads multiple engineering teams responsible for Rover’s commerce platform, spanning transactions, checkout, payments, payouts, and financial accuracy. The role requires deep software architecture experience, extensive engineering management experience, and the ability to drive AI adoption and cross-functional technical strategy.

Responsibilities
- Set technical vision and strategy for the Commerce Platform, partnering with product and engineering leadership on roadmaps, KPIs, resourcing, and investment decisions.
- Lead the commerce platform domain, including transaction lifecycles, orders and line-item data, fees, credits, promotions, booking modifications and cancellations, tax calculation and reporting, checkout, payouts, payment integrations, KYC verification, PCI compliance, reconciliation, and financial reporting.
- Drive AI-native transformation by identifying opportunities for AI/ML and automation to improve accuracy, velocity, or cost.
- Maintain high standards for fault tolerance, accuracy, precision, observability, auditability, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop engineering managers and engineers through goal setting, reviews, coaching, and hiring.
- Lead high-complexity, cross-functional initiatives with significant business impact.
- Communicate strategy, status, and risks clearly to senior stakeholders and coordinate cross-team dependencies.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software development best practices, system design, and architecture.
- 8+ years managing multiple engineering teams, including through one or more engineering managers.
- Experience leveraging AI and agentic coding tools to increase engineering velocity and raise technical standards.
- Experience with large-scale, high-traffic consumer marketplace platforms; commerce, payments, or other finance-critical domain experience is preferred.
- Track record of growing engineering managers and individual engineers and building diverse, high-functioning teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communication with senior leadership and stakeholders.

- First-year salary range for the Greater Seattle Area: $198,696-$264,266.
