About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Developing and negotiating price, coverage, terms and conditions for all new business and renewals
  • Actively identifying target accounts that fit Shepherd’s underwriting appetite
  • Marketing, producer management, and new business development
  • Successfully negotiating on all levels with both internal and external partners
  • Risk analysis with a focus on construction and/or casualty underwriting
  • Demonstrating knowledge and proficiency with compliance, coverage, products and pricing strategies
  • Being adaptable and creative in a fast paced startup environment

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of previous experience in the commercial underwriting space (Construction, Casualty, and/or Builder's Risk experience preferred)
  • Strong sales and marketing skills and ability to position accounts and close deals
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills (verbal and written) and a high EQ
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated, and ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
  • Not afraid of ambiguity
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Solid background in risk analysis and experience with construction and/or casualty underwriting
  • Knowledge and proficiency with compliance, coverage, products and pricing strategies
  • Teamwork, communication, and negotiation skills

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in high-hazard industries or insuring infrastructure projects like data centers, semiconductor fabs, or renewable energy assets
