Responsibilities
- Architect scalable, reliable systems handling billions of dollars in tax calculations.
- Own features end-to-end, from design through production, with visibility into business outcomes.
- Set high standards for code quality, testing practices, and technical documentation.
- Build highly reliable systems where tax accuracy and correctness are critical.
- Solve challenges involving millions of payroll transactions, multiple countries, thousands of jurisdictions, and evolving regulations.
- Collaborate with compliance, product, and platform teams to translate complex tax requirements into technical solutions.
- Contribute to an AI-driven global tax engine, massive system scaling, international support, distributed transactional systems, and automated tax filing.
- Build and maintain FQL, a proprietary DSL for encoding tax rules.
- Develop real-time tax calculation and AI-powered compliance systems.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience.
- Strong system design skills and experience building distributed, highly reliable systems.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Experience with Django or similar MVC-pattern frameworks and layered architectures.
- Proven ability to own and deliver impactful projects autonomously.
- Rigorous approach to correctness, testing, edge cases, and failure modes.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and clarify complex problem spaces.
- Clear communication and ability to influence technical decisions.
Nice to Have
- Experience in fintech, payroll, or tax domains.
- Experience with compliance-critical systems.
- Experience with domain-specific languages or rule engines.
- Familiarity with MongoDB, Temporal, or event-driven architectures.
