Senior Backend Engineer II

Responsibilities

• Design and implement highly scalable, highly available backend services with monitoring and alerting.
• Ramp quickly into unfamiliar codebases, assess blast radius, de-risk changes, and ship confidently.
• Use AI throughout development to generate and pressure-test approaches, verify output, and maintain code quality.
• Own the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, design, development, quality assurance, deployment, and maintenance.
• Scope ambiguous problems and write clear design documentation.
• Partner with product managers to translate product intent into technical decisions and challenge specifications when needed.
• Mentor teammates and share engineering knowledge.
• Communicate progress with product, engineering, and other stakeholders.
• Introduce technologies and ideas when they provide clear value.
• Participate in code and behavioral feedback, Scrum ceremonies, and team collaboration.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience in backend development, including 3–4 years in senior positions.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
• Fluency with AI tools in real-world software development and the judgment to verify their output.
• Experience developing distributed web applications.
• Ability to write comprehensible, well-structured, high-performance code.
• Experience with SQL or NoSQL database modeling.
• Experience using and designing RESTful services.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, curiosity, ownership, and ability to work with ambiguity.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Docker, MongoDB, Redis, Ruby on Rails, microservices, or machine learning experience.
