Staff Software Engineer, Monitoring Product

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and long-term direction of the monitoring product's API and UI, including how it scales and evolves.
• Surface account and device hierarchies—from company through site, probe and collector, device, and service—along with dependency relationships in a navigable way at scale.
• Lead device and host discovery, correlated system summaries, and onboarding of new sources.
• Build screens for creating, editing, and reviewing alert history through the alert service.
• Define and maintain data contracts with classification, telemetry, and alert services.
• Establish technical patterns for rendering and interacting with complex hierarchical network data, including performant topology visualizations.
• Advise other teams on architecture, performance, and design decisions, and resolve cross-team dependencies.
• Mentor engineers and raise the standard for production-grade, domain-aware full-stack work.
• Take on additional responsibilities and projects as needed.

Requirements

• Deep understanding of network and system topology and how to represent those relationships for live troubleshooting.
• Production experience with high-volume, latency-sensitive infrastructure, including distributed messaging or event streaming such as Kafka and search or indexing at scale such as OpenSearch, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience with contract-driven development and schema or interface definitions such as protobuf.
• Working knowledge of network telemetry including SNMP, syslog, ICMP, or OpenTelemetry.
• Strong cloud and systems experience across at least two of AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Track record of owning architectural decisions in ambiguous problem spaces and influencing shared contracts or platform boundaries across teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience building monitoring, observability, or network management products with a customer-facing UI.
• Familiarity with graph data models and hierarchical or dependency topology.
• Experience designing visualizations for complex hierarchical or graph-structured data.
• Background with SolarWinds, Zabbix, PRTG, Auvik, or similar platforms.
