Responsibilities
- Lead major initiatives and own a large area of Shepherd's product experience across data collection, automated underwriting, and policy administration verticals.
- Drive technical decisions for your domain while working across the full stack, including different disciplines such as underwriting, design, and product management.
- Take end-to-end ownership of features and systems from conception through release.
- Contribute to product strategy and architectural decisions.
- Mentor other engineers, help build company culture as the team scales, and collaborate closely with PM, CTO, underwriters, and actuaries.
- Ship high-quality products frequently while balancing innovation with pragmatic delivery.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- 5+ years of working experience, preferably as a full-stack engineer, with a track record of delivering high-impact products.
- Experience working with JavaScript/TypeScript (backend and/or frontend).
- Strong ownership mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and ability to wear multiple hats (engineer, product manager, designer).
- Passion for the built world, construction safety, and productivity.
- Interest in insurance (prior InsurTech or actuarial experience preferred).
- Ability to advocate for ideas with strong opinions weakly held, adapting based on better solutions.
- Experience leading or making major contributions to significant projects, with interest in mentoring others.
