Responsibilities
- Design, build, and test Gusto core products for the Tax Credits app.
- Mentor engineers and help solve complex technical problems at scale.
- Scale large Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/React applications.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering to understand customer needs, prototype solutions, iterate, and launch products.
- Own multi-quarter projects involving complex engineering problems and measurable customer impact.
- Address large-scale refactoring, performance, and reliability challenges.
- Build maintainable products and experiences that reduce customer pain.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software development experience.
- Experience building scalable solutions and customer-focused products.
- Experience using AI tools or systems to accelerate development, improve testing, and deliver product capabilities.
- Curiosity about emerging AI frameworks and ability to evaluate and scale AI use safely.
- Strong ownership of product areas and complex engineering initiatives.
- Ability to mentor engineers and maximize their performance and impact.
- Experience or interest in Ruby on Rails.
- Appreciation for collaborative, test-driven development.
- Ability to write well-structured, maintainable, and documented code.
- Effective communication across engineering teams and with business stakeholders.
Compensation
- Target cash compensation in New York: $197,000–$247,000 annually.
- Stock equity is additional.
- Two days of travel to a Gusto office are required for onboarding.
