Staff Software Engineer, Takeoff

Responsibilities

• Lead ambiguous, cross-team projects from problem definition through delivery.
• Set technical strategy and make architectural decisions for systems spanning teams and product areas.
• Identify cross-team gaps and drive strategies to address them.
• Build, test, and continuously deploy software.
• Create and review technical specifications and maintain high engineering-quality standards.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, internal customers, and stakeholders.
• Mentor and sponsor engineers across the organization.
• Investigate production issues, improve reliability, and support services as needed.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Production experience with Python.
• Experience leading complex, multi-team technical projects to successful outcomes.
• Ability to set technical direction and gain cross-functional buy-in.
• Strong coding fundamentals and ability to write clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
• Strong product and systems judgment in ambiguous or evolving problem spaces.
• Strong communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally.
• Experience working effectively on a remote team, including strong asynchronous and written communication.
• Ability to mentor, sponsor, and develop other engineers.
• Remote employment in the United States, limited to CA, GA, NY, NC, TN, TX, and WA.

Nice to Have

• Vue.js production experience.
• Experience with accounting systems, double-entry bookkeeping, or revenue recognition.
• Familiarity with agentic or AI-assisted systems in production.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and external systems, such as payment processors.
• Background in accounting, fintech, or related fields.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base pay range: $200,000–$240,000 in most remote locations.
• Base pay range: $230,000–$280,000 in San Francisco, CA and New York City, NY.
