Responsibilities

  • Develop and negotiate price, coverage, terms and conditions for all new business and renewals
  • Actively identify target accounts that fit Shepherd’s underwriting appetite
  • Market accounts and close deals with strong sales and marketing skills
  • Manage producer relationships and drive new business development
  • Negotiate on all levels with both internal and external partners
  • Perform risk analysis with a solid background in construction and/or casualty underwriting
  • Apply knowledge of compliance, coverage, products, and pricing strategies
  • Make quick, informed underwriting decisions tailored to client needs using technology and data

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of previous experience in the commercial underwriting space (Construction, Casualty, and/or Builder's Risk experience preferred)
  • Strong sales and marketing skills with ability to position accounts and close deals
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills (verbal and written) and high EQ
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated, ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • Teamwork, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Solid background in risk analysis and experience with construction and/or casualty underwriting
  • Knowledge and proficiency with compliance, coverage, products and pricing strategies
  • Adaptable and creative in a fast paced startup environment
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
