Engineering Manager

Leads and grows a high-autonomy engineering organization while remaining hands-on with code and technical coaching. The role manages and hires engineers, develops engineering talent, and drives initiatives to scale the company’s distinctive minimal-process culture.

Responsibilities

  • Manage 3–5 Engineers across multiple teams and specializations, including Product Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, and Design Engineering.
  • Hire 3–5 additional Engineers while helping scale the Engineering organization.
  • Provide feedback on product and technical specifications, coaching Engineers on scope, quality, and decision-making.
  • Develop Engineers so they can independently deliver large, loosely defined projects.
  • Contribute hands-on to systems and code by debugging customer issues, shipping small bug fixes, and improving developer experience while staying off the critical path.
  • Propose and lead department-wide and company-wide initiatives.
  • Improve pull request review practices through goal alignment, review sampling, analysis, and process proposals.
  • Design and improve interviews using candidate and team feedback.
  • Improve data generation and simulation for demo accounts to support Engineering, QA, and Sales.
  • Help scale the company’s engineering methods and culture as the team grows.

Requirements

  • Formerly a strong software engineer who continues to enjoy coding and stays current with technology.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing engineering teams.
  • Ability to coach engineers toward ownership, autonomy, and independent execution.
  • Ability to influence product and technical decisions without making final decisions for individual contributors.
  • Ambition, courage, and follow-through to improve team and company practices.
  • Comfort leading experienced Engineers, including Staff and Principal Engineers.
  • Alignment with a minimal-process, high-ownership engineering culture.
  • Ability to collaborate through deliberate communication and natural collaboration.

Compensation

  • Annual salary range: $190,000–$280,000.
