Technical Lead Manager

Leads and grows a new engineering team building MongoDB Atlas data federation and archiving capabilities. The role combines people management with hands-on architecture and development of large-scale distributed backend and storage systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of motivated individual contributors who are eager to learn and grow.
  • Contribute to the code, design, and architecture of the systems your team develops.
  • Work with stakeholders throughout MongoDB to build the roadmap and product offerings.
  • Work with customers and support engineers to fix issues and participate in the on-call rotation.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop the codebase, best practices, and design principles.
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful work environment.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of professional software development experience.
  • At least 3 years of people management experience.
  • Experience leading engineering teams that have built and maintained large-scale systems.
  • Skill writing large-scale, distributed backend systems in a compiled language such as Go, Java, or C#.
  • Experience with at least one major cloud provider technology: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with cloud storage primitives such as S3, GCS, or Azure Blob.
  • Hands-on experience with petabyte-scale data infrastructure or storage systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Curiosity, collaboration, and motivation.

Success Measures

  • In 1 month: Become familiar with foundational system components, existing features, and projects within the Atlas Clusters team.
  • In 3 months: Contribute to the design and development of team projects and work on team growth.
  • In 6 months: Lead the team toward product and engineering goals, take on medium-sized projects, support customers during escalations, and join the on-call rotation.
