Senior Consulting Engineer
Provides consultative, hands-on engineering and L1–L3 support for enterprise ClickHouse customers in Japan. The role requires at least five years of relevant experience with distributed databases, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale technical projects.

Responsibilities
- Provide consultative support to enterprise customers through a combination of hands-on engineering, development assistance, and L1–L3 support.
- Participate in customer projects involving design, architecture, integration, implementation, documentation, research, benchmarking, performance and functional testing, reference architectures, sizing, migrations, integrations, development, and tooling.
- Support implementation, onboarding, production launches, and proofs of concept for strategic customers, users, and prospects.
- Provide hands-on architectural, technical, and migration guidance.
- Handle customer cases and communications when not assigned to a customer project.
- Collaborate with product management, engineering, and sales on product roadmaps and account plans.
- Create and support public and internal documentation, knowledge-base articles, learning materials, reference architectures, blog posts, and benchmark results.
- Support hiring and mentoring as the team grows.
- Participate in shifts and on-call coverage for 24/7 global support; travel within the region by up to approximately 35%, including onsite support for customers in Tokyo.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in professional services, support, technical account management, engineering/SRE, and/or project management.
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience implementing, operating, and/or supporting scalable, fault-tolerant distributed database management systems.
- Broad and deep technical knowledge of DBMS, OLAP, cloud/SaaS platforms, distributed-systems software engineering, Linux/Unix, Kubernetes, systems or network administration, and big data.
- Experience collaborating with multiple experienced engineers to lead and complete large-scale technical projects.
- Expertise with public cloud providers and their IaaS services, including AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, and services such as Amazon EC2.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with customer-facing support services, engineering, and sales teams.
- Ability to work proactively in a globally distributed environment and support ongoing learning, teamwork, empathy, and challenging technical problem-solving.
Nice to Have
- Experience using ClickHouse.
- Experience as a user, community member, or contributor to open-source software and technologies.
- Experience with Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS.
- Experience with data pipelines and technologies such as Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, Apache Spark, or RabbitMQ.
