Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of engineers, fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Own team execution and delivery: roadmap planning, goal setting, and shipping well-tested, usable products.
- Ensure adherence to engineering best practices, including quality, observability, testing, security, and performance.
- Build partnerships across Product, Data, and Ops to align on priorities and drive business outcomes.
- Develop team members through mentorship, coaching, and thoughtful career conversations.
- Contribute to org-wide engineering practices: on-call readiness, DORA metrics, onboarding, and more.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer working on distributed systems in Python, Java, Kotlin, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- 3+ years of experience managing engineers, ideally on small, fast-moving squads.
- Clear communication, a bias toward action, and the ability to navigate ambiguity.
- A track record of building resilient systems and leading teams through scaling challenges.
- Comfortable working in our stack or learning quickly: Java/Python/Go, React, Postgres, AWS, Kubernetes.

Compensation
Illinois: $152,000 - $190,000 base salary plus discretionary bonus. Ontario: CA$148,800 - $186,000 base salary plus discretionary bonus.
