Manager, Account Management
Manages and expands Flexport’s Japan enterprise customer portfolio, serving as the local advisor while coordinating with Tokyo operations and global sales teams. The role requires 6+ years of account management, sales, or logistics experience, strong Japan trade-flow knowledge, and business-level Japanese and English.

Responsibilities
- Manage and grow existing customer relationships in Japan, owning the long-term health of the book of business.
- Drive account expansion through cross-sell and upsell opportunities across Ocean (FCL/LCL), Air, and value-added services.
- Act as the primary local point of contact for key customers.
- Coordinate with Tokyo Ocean and Air operations teams to ensure consistent service quality, fast issue resolution, and strong execution.
- Support customer onboarding and stabilize early-stage business for newly acquired accounts.
- Conduct regular client touchpoints and business reviews to demonstrate value and identify opportunities to deepen relationships.
- Collaborate with overseas sales teams to expand FOB business through Japan-origin and Japan-controlled opportunities.
- Support FOB and LOB expansion within the existing Japan customer base.
- Serve as a trusted advisor, advocating for customer needs and finding mutually beneficial solutions.
- Stay current on Japan-relevant supply chain, regulatory, and industry developments and educate customers proactively.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- 6+ years of experience in account management, sales, or supply chain operations, ideally in freight forwarding, logistics, or 3PL/4PL services.
- Proven track record of growing a book of business with Japanese enterprise customers and strengthening long-term client relationships.
- Strong understanding of Japan import/export trade flows and Japanese shippers' expectations around quality, communication, and reliability.
- Native or business-level Japanese, verbal and written.
- Professional working English in a global, English-speaking matrix.
- Working knowledge of Ocean (FCL/LCL) and Air freight.
- Familiarity with FOB/LOB structures and origin control products preferred.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with operations, pricing, sales, and global counterparts.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail.
- High integrity and a customer-first orientation.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting BCO and retail customers, including purchase-order and booking-management workflows.
- Experience at a technology-enabled freight forwarder or digital logistics platform.
- Experience with a country launch, new office build-out, or insourcing initiative.
