Senior Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and implement highly scalable, highly available backend services with monitoring and alerting.
• Ramp quickly into large, unfamiliar codebases, assess blast radius, de-risk changes, and ship confidently.
• Use AI throughout the development workflow to generate and pressure-test approaches, verify outputs, catch errors, and own code quality.
• Drive the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, solution design, development, quality assurance, deployment, and maintenance.
• Scope under-specified problems and write clear design documents aligned with product needs.
• Partner with product managers to translate product intent into technical decisions, communicate technical realities, and challenge specifications when appropriate.
• Mentor teammates and share engineering best practices.
• Communicate progress clearly with product, engineering, and other stakeholders.
• Introduce technologies and ideas when they provide clear value.
• Participate in scrum ceremonies, team culture, and technical and behavioral feedback.

Requirements

• Minimum 5+ years of industry experience in backend development, including 3–4 years in senior positions.
• Experience building large-scale applications with strong observability.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
• Fluency with AI tools in real development work and the judgment to verify and pressure-test their output.
• Experience developing distributed web applications.
• Ability to write comprehensible, well-structured, performant code.
• Experience with SQL or NoSQL database modeling.
• Experience using and designing RESTful services.
• Curiosity, AI-native engineering judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively, exercise product judgment, operate with ambiguity, and proactively improve systems and practices.
