Forward Deployed Engineer, APJ

Responsibilities

• Own the technical side of the sales cycle, including discovery, solution design, demos, proofs of concept/value, and technical objection handling in partnership with an Account Executive.
• Drive technical expansion opportunities within existing accounts by identifying use cases and turning them into evaluations.
• Build tailored working demos and prototypes on Exa’s API for agents, research, search, and enrichment use cases.
• Translate Exa’s capabilities into compelling narratives for CTOs, engineers, and product managers.
• Serve as a trusted technical advisor on Exa’s product, API, and use cases; answer technical questions, run rigorous evaluations, and involve engineering when appropriate.
• Feed patterns from customer evaluations back to product and engineering teams.
• Create reusable demos, integration patterns, and regional playbooks; represent Exa at workshops, meetups, and conferences.
• Support early customers through onboarding and initial implementation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in a customer-facing technical role, such as solutions engineering, sales engineering, solutions architecture, or engineering with significant customer exposure.
• Technical proficiency with APIs and modern development, particularly Python or TypeScript; able to design integrations, build demos, and debug live.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt to technical and executive audiences.
• Comfort managing ambiguity, multiple evaluations, and an evolving early-stage environment.
• Familiarity with LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents, and customer evaluation processes.
• Ability to scope proofs of concept with clear success criteria.
• Based in the region and willing to travel for customer engagements.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience owning technical evaluations at a developer-platform or API-first company.
• Experience leading engineers and moving into customer-facing work, or experience as a hands-on sales engineer.
• Projects involving LLMs or AI systems.
• Experience as an early regional hire or creating initial sales playbooks.
• Experience running enterprise evaluations end-to-end, including success criteria, security questionnaires, and RFP responses.
• Additional regional language skills.

Compensation and Benefits
