Senior Engineer, IAM

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve backend systems powering Postman’s identity and authentication platform.
• Own projects end to end, including requirements clarification, technical design, implementation, rollout, and production support.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to scope, build, test, and launch features and platform improvements.
• Improve reliability, scalability, observability, and operational readiness for owned services.
• Make technical trade-offs among speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
• Lead execution for projects involving 2–3 engineers through task breakdown, technical guidance, and code reviews.
• Participate in debugging, incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term production fixes.
• Improve engineering quality through testing, design and code reviews, and strong software engineering practices.
• Partner with management on roadmaps, prioritization, and service-level agreements.
• Promote ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building complex backend or distributed systems at scale.
• Experience designing and operating production systems with strong reliability requirements.
• Ability to own ambiguous problems from idea through production with minimal supervision.
• Experience leading or guiding small groups of engineers.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, networking, data modeling, and system design.
• Ability to write testable, maintainable, understandable code.
• Ability to make and clearly explain architectural and implementation trade-offs.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
• Commitment to production quality, observability, and operational excellence.

Technical Experience

• Backend technologies such as Node.js, Java, Python, Go, or Ruby.
• Distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
• Microservices at scale.
• Databases, caching, queues, and event-driven systems.
• Testing, monitoring, and incident response.

Nice to Have

• Authentication, authorization, identity, role-based access control, access control, or security-sensitive systems experience.

Work Arrangement
