Forward Deployed Engineer, GTM

Leads hands-on delivery of complex enterprise implementations, building integrations, AI workflows, agents, migrations, and data pipelines around Notion. Requires 5+ years of customer-facing or forward deployed engineering experience, production coding ability, and strong technical discovery and debugging skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own hands-on technical delivery of customer engagements, including technical discovery, requirements gathering, solution design, and end-to-end implementation.
  • Advise customers on architectural decisions and opportunities to expand their use of Notion.
  • Design, build, and operate custom agents, integrations, automations, and data pipelines connecting Notion with customer systems and workflows.
  • Lead large-scale content and data migrations, including discovery, scoping, data modeling, transformation, validation, and post-migration optimization.
  • Gather requirements from customer engineering, IT, security, and business stakeholders; identify constraints, evaluate feasibility, and make architectural decisions.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving APIs, integrations, automation logic, data quality, permissions, authentication, system limits, and customer environments.
  • Translate implementation challenges into insights, technical requirements, and tooling improvements for Product, CX, and Engineering.
  • Build reusable migration tooling, integration patterns, reference implementations, discovery frameworks, scripts, standards, and internal delivery tools.
  • Improve delivery methodologies, scoping artifacts, build patterns, documentation, and engineering best practices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a customer-facing or forward deployed engineering role, or a similar hands-on technical role.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, JavaScript, Node.js, SQL, or Python.
  • Experience writing production-quality code.
  • Hands-on experience with APIs and data integration.
  • Ability to lead technical discovery, assess feasibility, identify risks, scope work, estimate effort, and translate ambiguous requirements into executable plans.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across code, APIs, permissions, integrations, and customer configurations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with technical and business audiences.
  • Track record of translating technical challenges into scalable customer outcomes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional services experience, preferably in a startup or high-growth environment.
  • Experience deploying autonomous AI agents in coding or business workflows.
  • Experience with AI-powered workflows, MCPs, APIs, LLM applications, prompt engineering, retrieval/RAG systems, or workflow orchestration.
  • Experience developing technical frameworks, discovery methodologies, or internal tooling.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT workflows, data transformation, schema mapping, validation scripts, or large-scale content migration tooling.
  • Collaboration with product and engineering teams, including influencing roadmaps or architectural decisions.
  • Experience supporting pre-sales or early engagement phases, including technical discovery, migration scoping, feasibility analysis, effort estimation, prototypes, or custom scripts.
  • Track record of successful enterprise customer implementations.

Work arrangement

  • Based in Tokyo, Japan.
  • Office Anchor Days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
