Responsibilities
- Design and build backend systems powering onboarding flows, self-serve purchasing, and shared platform primitives.
- Own technical delivery end-to-end, including schema design, API contracts, performance, reliability, and production observability.
- Partner directly with product and design to shape feature development.
- Build scalable, reusable systems consumed by engineering teams across Rippling.
- Emphasize correctness, documentation, and thoughtful abstraction.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong backend background.
- Experience designing systems for scale, fault tolerance, and correctness.
- Understanding of consistency and availability trade-offs.
- Backend-leaning full-stack range and ability to own features end-to-end.
- High agency and ability to identify problems, scope solutions, and execute independently.
- Platform mindset focused on infrastructure and APIs used by other teams.
- Deep proficiency in a modern backend language such as Python, Go, or Java.
- Strong data modeling skills across SQL and NoSQL.
Compensation
- Annual salary: $189,000–$315,000.
