Manager, Site Reliability Engineering - Storage Layer Service
Leads and grows a senior SRE team responsible for the reliability, durability, capacity, and operational safety of MongoDB Atlas’s multi-tenant cloud storage layer. The role combines people management, technical strategy, hands-on architecture, and large-scale distributed systems operations.

Responsibilities
- Build and lead a team of 6–8 engineers, fostering a positive culture, supporting career growth, handling performance conversations, and proactively removing blockers.
- Define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for multi-tenant distributed storage systems, balancing long-term infrastructure goals with immediate engineering needs.
- Contribute hands-on through architectural design reviews, pull request reviews, and guidance during complex operational challenges.
- Serve as the primary liaison for the Storage Layer Services SRE team, collaborating with engineering leaders to ensure platform alignment and manage stakeholder expectations.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience working on software and operating distributed systems.
- 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
- Customer-focused mindset, treating internal developers as primary users.
- Track record of improving team workflows and operational efficiency.
- Preference for automation and building software solutions that eliminate toil.
- Deep familiarity with Kubernetes ecosystems, containerization technologies, and modern infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform, Crossplane, or Operators.
- Experience operating or supporting stateful storage or database systems at scale, including durability, consistency, and recovery trade-offs.
- Ability to translate complex business and engineering requirements into actionable, phased technical roadmaps.
- High empathy, responsibility, ownership, and accountability.
- Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills.
Nice to Haves
- Experience leading major architectural shifts from legacy storage stacks to new multi-tenant storage architectures, including large-scale data and workload migrations with demanding availability and durability requirements.
- Experience managing and scaling infrastructure across AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure.
- Experience designing secure, multi-tenant runtime environments at scale.
