Senior Engineering Manager, Activation & Engagement
Leads a 10–12-person engineering organization responsible for shopper activation and engagement across mobile, backend, compliance, and marketplace systems. Responsibilities
- Lead Shopper Activation & Engagement end-to-end, owning the team's operating model, roadmap execution, technical direction, and talent strategy across mobile, backend, compliance, marketplace efficiency, vendor-integrated systems, engineering foundations, and operational excellence.
- Drive multi-quarter roadmap planning and sequencing across compliance deadlines, marketplace and product growth initiatives, vendor work, engineering foundations, and reactive KTLO.
- Partner with Product, Design, Data, Legal/Compliance, Operations, Marketing, Logistics, Matching/Dispatch, Payments/Transactions, Trust & Safety, and Customer Experience to align priorities and negotiate tradeoffs.
- Develop and retain a team of 10–12 engineers through career growth, performance management, talent planning, and organizational change.
- Set technical direction by improving reliability, observability, on-call hygiene, incident response, and post-incident learning.
- Advance modern AI developer tools and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing software engineers through hiring, performance management, career development, and calibration.
- Experience leading product engineering teams across mobile applications, backend services, and operationally sensitive systems.
- Strong technical judgment across distributed systems, service ownership, mobile product delivery, reliability, observability, on-call, incident response, and post-incident learning.
- Experience defining, sequencing, and delivering multi-quarter roadmaps across competing priorities.
- Experience leading cross-functional planning and negotiation.
- Experience managing broad ownership areas involving legacy systems, cross-team dependencies, ambiguous requirements, and shifting priorities.
- Strong people leadership, including retaining and developing senior engineers and maintaining team health during organizational change.
- Experience using modern AI developer tools or AI-assisted engineering workflows.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with onboarding, activation, engagement, retention, or trust and safety surfaces.
- Background with multi-sided marketplace systems, including supply quality, availability, incentives, eligibility, matching, batching, and marketplace efficiency.
- Experience leading mobile-heavy product areas.
- Familiarity with AI/ML product integration and responsible AI-assisted development practices.
- Experience with Ruby on Rails, Python, Golang, Postgres, Redis, AWS, or comparable infrastructure.
Compensation
- Canadian base pay range: CA$229,000–CA$241,500 CAD.
- Eligible for a new-hire equity grant and annual refresh grants.
