Senior Manager, Engineering
Leads the engineering team responsible for Dialpad’s real-time calling experience across frontend, backend, and hardware. The role combines people leadership with hands-on technical direction in WebRTC, SIP, contact center systems, cloud-native architecture, and AI-assisted development.

Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of highly experienced engineers through one-on-ones, coaching, performance reviews, and career development.
- Define the 1–3 year team vision and roadmap with product partners.
- Own large projects end-to-end, including requirements gathering, planning, resourcing, and delivery.
- Lead the calling frontend, including seamless human–AI handoffs, preserved context, and real-time assistance.
- Lead the calling backend through architectural evolution, including reliability improvements, SLOs, criticality tiers, event-driven services, containerization, and safe migrations.
- Grow the hardware ecosystem across desk phones, Room Phones, ATAs, and DECT solutions.
- Evaluate technical designs and architecture proposals for scale and evolving business needs.
- Partner with distributed engineering, product, design, and support teams.
- Champion AI-native development using frontier models, AI agents, documentation, and end-to-end test automation.
- Improve engineering processes and ensure high-quality, timely delivery.
- Recruit candidates from diverse backgrounds.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical implementation as needed.
Requirements
- 5+ years leading high-performing engineering teams, including cross-functional or multi-team projects.
- 10+ years of professional experience as an engineer or engineering leader.
- Experience with real-time communications, including WebRTC, SIP, and VoIP.
- Knowledge of echo cancellation, call routing, and outbound call performance.
- Strong contact center domain knowledge, including routing, queues, and IVR.
- Full-stack fluency with a modern JavaScript framework, Vue 3, TypeScript, and Python or Java.
- Experience with cloud-native architectures, microservices, containerization, and orchestration.
- Experience evolving high-traffic production systems, defining SLOs, decomposing monoliths, and executing safe gradual migrations.
- Ability to diagnose and prevent performance and scalability problems.
- Hands-on fluency with AI-assisted development and coding agents.
- Strong communication, collaboration, mentoring, hiring, and interviewing skills.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Compensation
- For exceptional talent based in British Columbia, Canada, the target base salary range is $232,000–$281,500 CAD.
