Responsibilities
Growth & Commercial Expansion
- Own overall revenue growth and market expansion strategy for Japan.
- Build and execute a growth plan across SMB, mid-market, enterprise, and strategic verticals.
- Identify and unlock commercial opportunities, partnerships, channel strategies, and scalable go-to-market motions.
- Develop and scale channel and partner sales strategies.
- Build relationships with channel partners, resellers, ISVs, and ecosystem players.
- Drive pipeline generation, conversion, and expansion.
- Increase competitive win rates and establish market leadership in Japan.
- Develop market segmentation and prioritization strategies.
- Build scalable commercial motions for long-term expansion.
Sales Leadership & Operational Excellence
- Lead and scale a high-performing, multi-layered sales organization across Japan.
- Create a culture of accountability, urgency, resilience, and execution excellence.
- Hire, coach, manage performance, and develop leaders.
- Improve sales productivity, forecasting accuracy, and operational rigor.
- Build repeatable sales motions and operating mechanisms.
- Drive disciplined execution while maintaining agility.
Market Leadership & Strategic Influence
- Serve as a senior commercial leader in Japan and represent the market internally.
- Partner with Product, Marketing, Partnerships, Customer Success, and Global Sales leaders.
- Influence regional and global strategy through market and customer insight.
- Build executive-level relationships with customers, partners, and ecosystem stakeholders.
- Help shape Square’s long-term market position and brand presence in Japan.
Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration
- Partner with international sales and go-to-market leaders.
- Share best practices and contribute to global commercial strategy.
- Collaborate across time zones, functions, and cultures.
- Balance local market judgment with global operating standards.
Requirements
- 15+ years of sales and commercial leadership experience, including significant experience scaling high-growth businesses.
- Proven record of rapidly growing revenue and taking market share in competitive environments.
- Experience building and scaling organizations, go-to-market motions, and commercial infrastructure.
- Commercial expertise across SMB, mid-market, enterprise, strategic partnerships, and channel sales.
- Experience building channel sales, strategic partnerships, and indirect go-to-market motions.
- Ability to leverage partner ecosystems to increase distribution and commercial scale.
- Ability to lead through ambiguity, move with urgency, and drive operational discipline.
- Strong executive presence and cross-functional influence.
- Experience operating within global organizations and cross-cultural environments.
