Responsibilities
- Work closely with research, product management, product engineering, product design, peers, and other teams to define the first version and future evolution of AI interfaces.
- Design, build, and deliver well-tested core platform components, including the MongoDB MCP Server, Agent Skills, Intelligent Assistant Platform, and purpose-built agents.
- Take ownership of ambiguous problems and drive them to completion independently as requirements evolve.
- Contribute to architecture, code reviews, development practices, and developer experience as the teams and product grow.
- Mentor fellow engineers and assume ownership and accountability for projects.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for business continuity and incident response.
Requirements
- Strong background building core components for scalable, high-availability web applications and services.
- 5+ years of experience building backend systems, primarily in Node.js and TypeScript, with an interest in working across a polyglot codebase.
- Proven success designing, writing, testing, debugging, and performance-tuning software systems in large, long-lived codebases.
- Track record of identifying problems, implementing solutions, and delivering complex projects independently with minimal guidance.
- Product-minded approach to engineering, with sound judgment for pragmatic tradeoffs and comfort operating amid ambiguity and rapidly evolving technologies.
- Collaborative, approachable, curious, and intellectually honest working style.
- Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills.
- Ability to enable teams to deliver great products through leadership and technical contributions.
- Eagerness to learn and a strong technical background.
Nice to Haves
- Experience building MCP servers, agent skills, or plugins for agentic applications.
- Familiarity with the agentic AI tooling ecosystem, including AI IDEs, CLIs, and assistants, and how developers integrate with it.
- Working knowledge of Java and/or Python.
- Experience with OAuth and authentication infrastructure for developer-facing services.
- Experience working with databases and knowledge of database internals.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
- Experience with AI frameworks and tools.
