Staff Engineer - Business Systems
Leads the architecture, implementation, governance, and operational maturity of enterprise Workato integrations and APIs across GTM systems. Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end architecture, design, and implementation of Workato-based integrations and APIs across GTM systems, including Salesforce, NetSuite, HRIS, and Google Workspace.
- Define and evolve integration standards, canonical patterns, error-handling strategies, observability practices, and operational runbooks.
- Design and review complex event-driven integration workflows using Kafka or equivalent messaging platforms, including topics, producers, consumers, durability, and retry mechanisms.
- Drive API-first and MCP-native designs using RESTful APIs, MCP-based interfaces, AI-driven services, OAuth2, JWT, API versioning, lifecycle management, and Apigee or similar API management platforms.
- Translate ambiguous cross-functional requirements into scalable, extensible, and maintainable technical designs.
- Mentor integration engineers on Workato concepts, API design, integration patterns, and perform design and code reviews.
- Partner with GTM, Finance, Data, Security, engineering, architecture, and business stakeholders on data governance, compliance, audit requirements, CI/CD, and environment strategies.
- Establish and enforce non-functional requirements for performance, resiliency, observability, security, testing, and monitoring.
- Troubleshoot complex multi-system issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive durable corrective actions.
- Conduct proofs of concept for Workato features, API capabilities, and event-streaming approaches.
- Help mature on-call and support rotations, incident response, escalation, and communication practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of enterprise integration experience, including significant lead or architect experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and delivering complex enterprise-grade solutions with Workato.
- Deep Workato expertise, including advanced recipes, callable recipes, event streams, Workato SDK, task optimization, and governance.
- Experience operating Workato at production scale, including environment strategy, deployment automation, observability, monitoring, logging, and debugging.
- Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and Kafka or equivalent messaging technologies.
- Proficiency with Workato connectors such as Salesforce, NetSuite, HRIS, and Google Workspace.
- Strong scripting skills in Python or Ruby for advanced transformations and custom logic.
- Experience defining and enforcing integration standards, patterns, and performance, scalability, security, and operability requirements.
- Strong system design, analysis, troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder-influence skills.
- Ability to mentor teammates and lead architecture and design reviews.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative hybrid environment, with occasional travel as needed.
