Staff Forward Deployed Engineer

Responsibilities

Customer and business impact

• Own complex customer engagements and technical workstreams, particularly ambiguous problems and paths to production.
• Understand customer architecture, business goals, constraints, and success criteria to shape technical approaches.
• Serve as a trusted technical counterpart to customer engineering leaders, internal Product and Engineering leaders, and executive stakeholders.

Technical leadership and execution

• Lead architectural design for customer-facing solutions and platform capabilities in the FDE domain.
• Translate ambiguous problems into technical direction, implementation plans, milestones, and ownership boundaries.
• Write and review production-quality code, troubleshoot complex failures, and uphold standards for correctness, maintainability, observability, and operational readiness.
• Identify systemic tooling, architecture, and delivery issues and drive durable fixes across engagements.

Product and roadmap influence

• Surface domain patterns, product gaps, and technical risks from field engagements and turn them into proposals, design direction, and roadmap input.
• Influence technical vision for the FDE domain with Product and Engineering leaders.
• Determine which field patterns should become reusable product capabilities, standards, or platform investments.

Cross-functional and organizational leadership

• Lead cross-functional workstreams with Product and Engineering.
• Drive consensus on complex technical issues affecting multiple teams and resolve deadlocks through judgment and clear written artifacts.
• Create designs, decision logs, and proposals that align stakeholders.
• Mentor senior engineers, share best practices, and improve standards and operating practices across teams.

Requirements

• 9+ years of relevant engineering experience, including hands-on work in production systems and complex customer or enterprise environments.
• Experience leading technical domains or initiatives spanning multiple teams, with ownership of technical direction and delivery outcomes.
• Strong experience designing and implementing production-grade integrations, platforms, or distributed systems in ambiguous environments.
• Strong technical judgment balancing customer impact, speed, maintainability, and operational risk.
• Ability to shape technical direction based on customer and business context, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and mentor engineers.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% to customer sites as needed.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with LLMs, agent frameworks, retrieval systems, evaluation frameworks, or deploying AI systems in production enterprise environments.
• Prior forward-deployed engineering experience or a similar role spanning customer environments, product influence, and hands-on engineering execution.
• Experience leading multi-team technical initiatives from problem definition through adoption in ambiguous, cross-functional environments.
