Engineering Manager II - Monetisation

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and scaling decisions for the monetisation platform, including ledger and wallet design, subscription and plan management, usage rating, auto-recharge, payment provider integrations, invoicing, and the reselling/rebilling layer.
• Guarantee financial correctness through double-entry ledger integrity, idempotency across write paths, exactly-once handling of usage events, and automated reconciliation with providers and downstream channels.
• Own fraud, abuse, and spend-control systems, including velocity and anomaly detection, spend caps, circuit breakers, decline-code classification, retry policies, and runaway-spend protection.
• Work hands-on with NestJS, Firestore, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, queuing systems, data warehousing systems, and service-mesh-based microservices.
• Lead initiatives improving reliability, latency, and throughput across time-sensitive APIs and workflows.
• Evolve monitoring, alerting, and incident response strategies using Prometheus and Grafana, with financial invariants and reconciliation drift treated as first-class signals.
• Use LLMs and AI tools to write, refactor, test, and debug code while implementing reliability guardrails.
• Partner with product, infrastructure, security, finance, and risk teams on data integrity, access control, auditability, and compliance, including PCI scope, PII handling, and revenue reporting.
• Lead and develop engineering managers and senior engineers, build a leadership pipeline, plan succession, and raise the hiring bar.
• Participate in design reviews, technical deep dives, and on-call rotations.
• Own multiple teams and products, establish the engineering system, set technical direction, and develop leaders.

Requirements

• 9+ years of backend engineering experience and at least 2 years of leadership experience, including designing fault-tolerant systems and working on high-scale platforms.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous job processing.
• Experience owning systems with strict consistency and correctness requirements, such as billing, payments, ledgers, or metering.
• Fluency in idempotency, exactly-once semantics, reconciliation, and audit trails.
• Experience optimizing availability, performance, and reliability in production systems under load.
• Strong experience with relational and NoSQL data models, especially complex transactional data.
• Experience leading experienced senior engineers and facilitating rigorous technical decision-making.
• Familiarity with monitoring, SLOs, and root-cause analysis in production environments.
• Familiarity with hallucination mitigation strategies, including code constraints, test scaffolding, embeddings, and context injection.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Pragmatic, hands-on leadership style balancing long-term vision with iterative execution.

Preferred Experience

• Fraud, abuse, or risk-control systems, including rules and scoring engines, velocity checks, anomaly detection, or spend and rate governors.
• Payment provider integrations such as Stripe, Adyen, PayPal, and regional PSPs; dunning and recovery flows; chargebacks; or PCI-scoped systems.
• Multi-tenant reselling, marketplace, or platform billing, including markups, revenue share, agency or sub-account hierarchies, and white-label monetisation.
• AI tools and communication APIs such as Twilio and Plivo.
• Contributions to open-source tools, internal platforms, or engineering blogs.
