Responsibilities
- Lead the Accounting Platform engineering organization and establish clear ownership, staffing, and team direction.
- Define and scope product functionality for global accounting systems.
- Lead initiatives across the full development lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, deployment, scale, accuracy, and performance.
- Read code, debug production issues, review architecture, and identify root causes in complex systems.
- Drive high-toil, operationally demanding systems toward stability and autonomy by addressing systemic issues.
- Build and operate scalable platform systems end to end while owning technical architecture and product outcomes.
- Collaborate with Payroll, Compliance, Spend Engineering, and global stakeholders.
- Set roadmaps, define milestones, and deliver in high-ambiguity environments.
- Lead and develop engineering managers and senior engineers.
Requirements
- 12–15 years of total professional experience across individual contributor and managerial roles.
- At least 5 years of engineering management experience, including 2+ years managing managers.
- 7–8 years of individual contributor experience.
- Strong technical depth, including production debugging, code review, architecture review, and root-cause analysis.
- Experience transforming operationally demanding systems into stable, autonomous platforms.
- Hands-on experience building scalable platform systems end to end.
- Strong execution, roadmap planning, milestone definition, and delivery skills.
- Excellent communication across distributed teams and with non-engineering stakeholders.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in accounting, payroll, fintech, or high-correctness financial systems.
- Experience with AI-driven solutions and modern engineering practices.
- Experience supporting global systems, multiple countries, integrations, and accounting standards.
