Forward Deployed Engineer, Perplexity Computer
Embeds with strategic enterprise customers to scope, build, deploy, and operationalize AI workflows using Perplexity Computer. The role requires 5+ years in customer-embedded technical work and strong capabilities across engineering, solutions architecture, and technical program management.

Responsibilities
- Embed with strategic customers on time-boxed engagements, typically 1–3 months, with clear scope, milestones, and exit criteria.
- Design, build, prototype, ship, debug, and harden workflows in customer environments, using Perplexity Computer and adjacent tooling.
- Own customer relationships throughout engagements, including executive communication, practitioner working sessions, expectation management, and end-to-end deployment risk mitigation.
- Turn deployments into reusable skills, connectors, workflow templates, or reference implementations.
- Partner with Sales and Customer Success on scoping, pre-sales technical validation, and expansion.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in a customer-embedded technical role such as forward-deployed engineering, senior solutions engineering, solutions architecture, or technical consulting.
- Proven ability to run customer engagements as projects, including scoping, milestone planning, status reporting, executive communication, risk management, and exit criteria.
- Daily experience using frontier large language models, agents, and coding assistants, with strong judgment about model capabilities and reliability.
- Executive-credible communication skills, including the ability to explain architecture to CIO-level stakeholders while managing delivery on the ground.
- High agency in ambiguous environments and the ability to identify important problems and ship solutions without perfect requirements.
- Strong capability across engineering, customer-facing solutions architecture, and services-oriented program management; excellence in at least two areas and credibility in all three.
Nice-to-haves
- Previous forward-deployed engineering, applied AI, or deployment-strategy experience at a frontier AI company.
- Sales engineering leadership at an enterprise SaaS or infrastructure company with ownership of the technical outcome of $1M+ deals.
- Solutions architecture experience in a strong services organization.
- Experience deploying agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, or multi-step large language model workflows in regulated or complex enterprise environments.
- Experience working at startups or small teams and owning customer projects end to end.
