Responsibilities
- Build and operate backend services, APIs, and database-backed systems across application code and infrastructure.
- Investigate and resolve scalability bottlenecks, database performance issues, memory leaks, reliability problems, and production incidents.
- Design and execute high-risk migrations with appropriate failure-mode analysis, observability, staged rollout, and rollback plans.
- Improve infrastructure, developer tooling, CI/CD workflows, local development environments, alerting, and on-call processes.
- Work with Kubernetes, Google Cloud, Terraform, observability systems, and incident-response tooling as needed.
- Collaborate with product engineering teams to improve data synchronization and enable teams to own more of their infrastructure.
- Diagnose production systems using profiling, benchmarking, tracing, heap snapshots, allocation profiles, garbage-collection metrics, query plans, and production traces.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals and experience building production services, APIs, and database-backed systems.
- Deep experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
- Experience with PostgreSQL performance work, including query analysis, indexing, or data-model design.
- Experience debugging complex production problems and identifying root causes.
- Experience with profiling, benchmarking, tracing, or production-system debugging.
- Experience owning large-scale or high-risk migrations.
- Ability to own ambiguous technical problems, learn unfamiliar systems quickly, and communicate clearly with limited management.
Nice-to-haves
- Kubernetes, Google Cloud, and Terraform experience.
- Experience with CI/CD systems and local development environments.
- Observability and incident response experience.
- Security or compliance experience.
- Low-level networking or operating-system knowledge.
