Payroll Manager

The Payroll Manager will own U.S. and international payroll, payroll accounting, stock administration, tax compliance, and related controls for a high-growth company. The role requires 4–6 years of progressive payroll experience, strong equity compensation knowledge, and the ability to manage reconciliations and reporting independently.

Responsibilities

  • Run end-to-end payroll for U.S. and international entities, including new hires, terminations, bonuses, commissions, and equity compensation.
  • Own stock administration in Carta, including grants, exercises, terminations, repurchases, and related tax and reporting.
  • Close payroll and equity monthly through accruals, reconciliations, stock compensation expense support, and audit schedules.
  • Manage payroll tax across states and countries, including registrations, mobile employees, and year-end filings.
  • Document processes, build controls, and automate manual workflows.
  • Expand into broader accounting operations over time, including T&E policy, process and compliance, accounts payable, and month-end reconciliations.

Requirements

  • 4–6 years of progressive payroll experience with full ownership of U.S. and international payroll.
  • Payroll tax fluency, including registrations, multi-state nexus, and year-end forms.
  • Deep knowledge of payroll compliance, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Working knowledge of equity compensation mechanics, including ISO/NSO, exercises, dispositions, withholding, and reporting.
  • Experience with or ability to quickly learn Carta.
  • Ability to prepare journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to independently reconcile and resolve discrepancies.
  • Proactive, ownership-driven mindset suited to a fast-moving startup environment.

Compensation

  • $160,000–$190,000 plus equity.
