Senior Software Engineer - Backend
Build and own scalable backend infrastructure and distributed data systems for Encord’s Foundations team. The role requires 5+ years of backend experience, production service ownership, and strong expertise in distributed systems and high-level programming.

Responsibilities
- Take end-to-end ownership of significant projects within database and processing systems, including design, architecture, deployment, monitoring, and impact measurement.
- Build robust distributed systems and reason about failure modes and behavior under load.
- Contribute to performant protocols and APIs, including customer-facing label-format APIs.
- Tackle complex domains and large-scale data with simple, effective solutions.
- Raise engineering standards through code reviews, pairing, and mentoring.
Requirements
- 5+ years building large-scale backend infrastructure applications.
- Deep fluency in at least one high-level programming language; Python and TypeScript are used.
- Strong grounding in distributed systems concepts, including databases, replication, partitioning, queuing, and caching.
- Experience owning production services and improving quality through code reviews, testing, rollouts, and monitoring.
- Ability to work autonomously on ambiguous problems and make sound architectural decisions.
Nice to Have
- Experience with data migrations or re-architecture projects.
