Senior Frontend Engineer - Web Infra
Build and operate frontend build systems, CLI tooling, and federated architecture that enable product teams to ship independently at scale. The role requires 6+ years of experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, modern bundlers, monorepos, build telemetry, and AI-assisted development infrastructure.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Own and deliver key workstreams transitioning Rippling's frontend from a tightly coupled monolith to a federated architecture, enabling product teams to build, test, and ship independently while preserving a unified customer experience.
- Evolve and maintain the core web CLI and build infrastructure, improving build reliability, local development performance, and developer ergonomics.
- Optimize build efficiency and artifact delivery across local, CI, staging, and production environments using telemetry, baselines, and data to eliminate bottlenecks and regressions.
- Build and ship internal frontend tooling and libraries that improve engineering velocity, from technical design through rollout and adoption.
- Establish frontend build-system best practices, mentor engineers, and conduct hands-on code reviews.
- Build infrastructure supporting AI-assisted development workflows, enabling AI agents and engineers to author, validate, and ship production-quality code reliably.
- Participate in on-call rotations, drive incident resolution, and ensure the reliability and health of build infrastructure in production.
Requirements
- 6+ years of software engineering experience focused on frontend workflows, build systems, or developer tooling in a large-scale production environment.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ESNext), TypeScript, and Node.js, including production experience building CLI tools, build scripts, and developer-facing tooling.
- Working knowledge of modern bundlers such as Webpack or Vite, including Module Federation, code splitting, and build performance optimization.
- Experience instrumenting build telemetry, defining performance baselines, surfacing regressions, and using data to prioritize infrastructure improvements.
- Familiarity with large-scale frontend monorepo architectures and their build and dependency challenges.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to balance platform needs with product-team flexibility and drive organizational alignment.
- Ability to work independently in ambiguous, high-ownership environments and drive work to completion.
- Hands-on experience building or designing infrastructure for AI-assisted development workflows, including tooling that enables AI agents to author, validate, and ship production-quality code at scale.
