Head of Talent

Leads Kaizen’s recruiting function, scaling its systems and team while personally closing senior and executive searches across engineering, go-to-market, operations, and design. Requires experience building talent organizations, managing recruiting teams, partnering with founders, and sourcing hard-to-reach candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run the recruiting engine, including process, pipeline, reporting, and hiring systems across company functions.
  • Own and raise the company-wide hiring bar; personally source and close senior and executive candidates.
  • Manage concurrent searches across go-to-market, operations, engineering, and design, from individual contributor through director and executive levels.
  • Own and optimize the recruiting stack, including Ashby, Juicebox, and LinkedIn Recruiter; provide leadership with live pipeline reporting and automate coordination work.
  • Manage the recruiting team, hire additional recruiters, establish recruiting standards, and support team career growth.
  • Evaluate and manage agency partners, negotiate terms, and determine when retained search firms are appropriate.
  • Establish the employer brand in the New York City and Washington, DC markets.
  • Partner with the COO and founding team on headcount planning and talent strategy.

Requirements

  • Experience scaling a talent function through significant headcount growth, with demonstrable outcomes.
  • Experience partnering directly with founders and company leadership.
  • Strong understanding of and relationships within the New York City engineering community.
  • Experience managing recruiters, coordinators, and sourcers, including career development.
  • Experience running concurrent searches across engineering and go-to-market functions, including senior and executive roles and roles without obvious candidate pools.
  • Hands-on use of AI and automation in recruiting workflows.
  • Experience configuring an applicant tracking system; Ashby experience is preferred.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Recruiting experience in government, defense technology, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience running or managing retained executive searches.
  • Interest in expanding into broader people operations.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $250,000–$300,000.
