Lead, Platform Engineering
Leads a platform engineering team responsible for building and operating MongoDB’s self-service internal developer platform. The role combines people management, large-scale distributed systems ownership, backend development, Kubernetes operations, observability, and cross-functional infrastructure planning.

Responsibilities
- Define, plan, and execute projects that run, grow, and transform MongoDB's self-service internal developer platform.
- Organize work for a team of platform engineers in coordination with other engineering leads.
- Mentor engineers and lead by example.
- Investigate development workflow gaps and limitations with engineering teams across MongoDB; identify infrastructure and platform requirements.
- Write and review automation, configuration management, and application code.
- Author and review functional specifications and scoping documents for large platform projects and services.
- Own and operate the internal development platform.
- Collaborate with distributed teams across multiple time zones.
Requirements
- 2+ years managing and mentoring a team of 3+ engineers.
- 5+ years owning the design and implementation of large software or infrastructure projects.
- Experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in cloud providers; AWS strongly preferred.
- Strong backend programming background; fluency in Go strongly preferred, with deep experience in another compiled or strongly typed backend language acceptable.
- Experience operating production Kubernetes clusters.
- Practical experience defining and operating against SLI/SLOs.
- Strong experience with observability tooling, including metrics, logging, traces, Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
- Strong Linux and TCP/IP networking skills.
- Familiarity with OAuth and OIDC authentication protocols.
- Familiarity with web services and/or Kubernetes controller development.
- Strong experience using CI/CD workflows to deploy production services.
- Experience working with AI coding agents and building high-quality context for high-quality outputs.

Success Measures
- Within three months, become familiar with the teams and systems, take on direct reports, and participate in high-level scoping and roadmapping.
- Within six months, investigate, scope, and document medium- to large-sized platform projects and coordinate implementation with direct reports.
- Within a year, deliver measurable results based on the goals of Infrastructure Engineering, stakeholder needs, and MongoDB objectives.
