Contract Student Worker - Business Operations
Part-time student worker supporting Fleet Operations through forecasting, scenario planning, and AI-enabled decision-support tools for autonomous vehicle service scaling. Responsibilities
- Develop forecasting models for fleet availability, supply hours, staffing, operational workload, charging demand, and infrastructure needs.
- Build scenario models to help leaders understand staffing, cost, and infrastructure implications of operational changes and market growth.
- Translate complex analytics into strategic recommendations and decision-making options.
- Evaluate model performance through backtesting, forecast-versus-actual reporting, and defined accuracy measures.
- Combine statistical methods, machine learning, and AI-enabled tools to improve forecasts and interpret model outputs.
- Prototype AI-powered decision-support tools that explain forecast drivers, identify emerging risks, and support planning scenarios.
- Partner with Workforce Management, Finance, Strategy, Data Science, and operational leaders to align assumptions and establish a shared operating forecast.
- Communicate findings through concise writing, storytelling, and presentations for senior stakeholders.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a relevant B.S. or M.S. program.
- Relevant fields include data science, business, statistics, computer science, operations research, industrial engineering, economics, and applied mathematics.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to select an appropriate analytical approach rather than defaulting to the most complex model.
- Comfort with ambiguity and evolving priorities in a fast-scaling operational environment.
- Available for a minimum three-month assignment and at least 20 hours per week.
- Able to work onsite at a Zoox office location.
- Must comply with confidentiality requirements regarding proprietary company information.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with LLMs, coding copilots, APIs, or agent frameworks.
- Experience developing analytical products or automating technical workflows.
- Strong understanding of model evaluation, uncertainty, explainability, and human oversight.
- Experience influencing without authority and advising senior leaders across functions.
