Senior Software Engineer, Ads
Builds and scales Discord’s advertising products and infrastructure across backend and frontend systems. The role requires 5+ years of experience, strong ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and expertise in technologies such as Python, Rust, TypeScript, React, or React Native.

Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain new Ads products and infrastructure spanning backend and frontend systems.
- Collaborate with engineers across Revenue Infrastructure, Core Tech, Machine Learning, and Data Science.
- Partner with engineering, product, and cross-functional leadership to design, develop, and scale digital advertising features that drive revenue growth and user engagement.
- Architect simple, maintainable systems that support rapid launches and iteration while maintaining high product and technical quality.
- Demonstrate ownership by operating autonomously, involving stakeholders on critical questions, and introducing coding and operational best practices.
- Own projects end to end, including requirements refinement, technical designs and specifications, implementation, launch, and maintenance.
- Mentor fellow engineers and provide guidance on system architecture, API design, data modeling, and tradeoffs.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience.
- Strong product impact orientation and ability to collaborate with product managers, designers, analysts, and engineers.
- Demonstrated ownership, autonomy, and follow-through.
- Growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Willingness to mentor and provide technical feedback.
Nice to Have
- Expertise with Python and/or Rust.
- Experience with TypeScript, React, or React Native.
- Experience in advertising.
- Familiarity with experimentation and analysis.
- Contributions to open-source projects.
- Interest in or passion for the Discord platform.
Compensation and Benefits
- US base salary range: $196,000–$220,500, plus equity and benefits.
