Major Gifts Officer

Build and manage a major-donor portfolio, personally soliciting and closing five- to seven-figure gifts while developing compelling proposals about Mozilla’s mission. Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of major donor relationships through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Personally solicit and close five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts from donors capable of giving $50,000–$1M+.
  • Move prospects from active cultivation to solicitation and signed commitments.
  • Build and prioritize the major-gift pipeline and help the program meet revenue targets.
  • Partner with prospect research to identify and qualify new prospects, using wealth screening or predictive analytics where appropriate.
  • Document donor interactions and relationship history in Salesforce.
  • Design and deliver stewardship activities and donor events.
  • Build donor renewal and upgrade pathways, including converting annual donors into major-gift prospects.
  • Translate Mozilla’s programs and technical work into tailored proposals and impact stories.
  • Coordinate executive leaders, program staff, and donor interests into compelling cases for support.
  • Deploy senior leaders strategically in donor relationships.

Requirements

  • Track record in major-gift fundraising, preferably in technology, advocacy, or public-interest organizations.
  • Demonstrated success personally soliciting and closing five-, six-, and/or seven-figure gifts from high-net-worth individuals.
  • Experience conceiving, planning, and executing a major-gifts program.
  • Ability to build, prioritize, and systematically manage a donor portfolio from identification through stewardship.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong proposal-writing and presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts as philanthropic opportunities.
  • Command of donor cultivation strategy and moves management.
  • Comfort with CRM systems and disciplined donor database management.
  • Ability to manage a full portfolio, prioritize effectively, and proactively make difficult asks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of digital rights, internet health, or technology policy.
  • Donor-advised fund (DAF) fluency.
  • Experience with data-informed prospecting, wealth screening, or predictive analytics tools.
  • Awareness of planned and bequest giving.

Compensation and benefits

  • Compensation is based on location and assessed level (Level 17 or Level 18).
  • Germany, Level 17: €79,920.40–€89,845.70; Level 18: €91,572.20–€102,851.53.
  • United Kingdom, Level 17: £66,225.60–£74,450.15; Level 18: £75,880.80–£85,227.36.
  • Canada, Level 17: $137,970.00–$155,104.47 CAD; Level 18: $158,085.00–$177,557.00 CAD.
  • United States, Level 17: $102,200.00–$114,892.20 USD; Level 18: $117,100.00–$131,523.70 USD.
  • Higher-market examples include California, Washington, Massachusetts, Maryland/DC, New York City, San Francisco Bay Area, and London, with ranges varying by level and location.
