Responsibilities
- Lead the 0-to-1 architecture, construction, and testing of the Reach platform through a Fall 2027 pilot and the next-generation CogAT assessment through its 2028 launch.
- Design a complex, multi-component B2B platform for production volume and institutional buyers within a regulated data environment.
- Build and lead a dedicated 6–10 engineer team within the first 60 days, using existing talent and new hires.
- Own the first customer migration wave and deliver an improved day-one experience.
- Remain hands-on, coding alongside the engineering team.
- Make build-versus-buy-versus-partner decisions for core technical dependencies, including adaptive engines, test delivery, and rostering.
- Establish AI-native engineering practices and incorporate AI into core capabilities such as the Reporting Engine.
- Translate the product roadmap into a technical execution plan covering architecture and infrastructure sequencing.
- Partner with product, psychometrics, content, and senior leadership teams; provide demos and transparent updates on progress, risks, and decisions.
Requirements
- Principal engineer or architect experience on large, complex, enterprise-grade production systems.
- Personally led a 0-to-1 B2B platform build as the senior technical owner.
- Experience building and leading engineering teams comprising existing employees and new hires.
- Served as the senior technical decision-maker for a project for at least 24 months.
- Experience architecting and scaling production systems on AWS.
- Experience operating in a regulated data environment such as FERPA, COPPA, HIPAA, or SOC 2.
- Full-stack fluency across frontend, backend, architecture, DevOps, and testing.
- Uses agentic coding tools and AI-assisted development as a standard part of engineering.

- Experience building assessment, test-delivery, or other high-stakes data platforms.
- Experience building data or analytics/reporting platforms at scale.
- Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or equivalent tools.
- Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into production products.
