Engineering Manager

Engineering Manager leading and coaching distributed software engineering teams across North America and Europe while remaining hands-on with production software. The role requires 7–8+ years of engineering experience, 2–3+ years of people management, and strong distributed-team leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the product alongside engineers locally and overseas in distributed teams.
  • Own reporting lines within a community, managing engineers across Europe and North America.
  • Ensure collaboration and alignment across teams in France, the UK, and Canada/US.
  • Act as a culture carrier for the AMER region and Toronto office.
  • Support engineer growth, performance, and engagement.
  • Hire, coach, and manage software engineers.
  • Define expectations, provide feedback, and support performance management.
  • Build and follow career development plans using a skill-leveling matrix.
  • Participate in performance and compensation discussions, including under-performance remediation.
  • Onboard and ramp up new hires.
  • Lead cross-team and cross-location initiatives that improve engineering practices, culture, or processes.
  • Contribute to hiring, employer branding, and local office culture.
  • Collaborate daily with teams in France and the UK across time zones.
  • Maintain production systems, operational conditions such as alerting and observability, and incident response practices.

Software Engineering Requirements

  • Translate functional requirements into simple, scalable, elegant designs.
  • Deliver high-quality, production-ready code.
  • Understand product and customer needs and contribute ideas that maximize user value.
  • Remain close to the code to support technical credibility and team ramp-up.
  • Apply strong software engineering fundamentals.

Requirements

  • Typically 7–8+ years of senior-level software engineering experience working on production systems.
  • 2–3+ years of people management experience.
  • Experience designing object-oriented software using languages such as C#, Java, C++, Golang, Rust, Python, or Ruby.
  • Strong communication, empathy, coaching, and leadership skills.
  • Experience working with distributed or remote teams.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian market and practices.
  • Fluent English.
  • A people-focused, collaborative, learning-oriented, and humble approach.

Work Arrangement

  • Hybrid role based in the Toronto office.
  • 50% office presence is required to strengthen team bonding and local culture.

Compensation

  • Salary: 180000–250000 (ATS-provided).
