Staff Software Engineer, Core Infrastructure
Build and operate shared cloud infrastructure, services, and frameworks for Okta’s core engineering platform. The role requires 7+ years of backend programming experience, strong Java and cloud expertise, and experience scaling highly available enterprise deployments.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver cloud-based infrastructure projects using Redis, Elasticsearch, Docker, Terraform, and AWS.
- Evaluate, develop, and roll out shared microservices.
- Operate, support, upgrade, and scale shared services and frameworks.
- Participate in design and code reviews and maintain high programming standards through unit and functional testing.
- Monitor and troubleshoot owned services and frameworks.
- Collaborate with architects, QA, product owners, security, and operations engineers.
- Mentor new engineering hires and interns.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
- 7+ years of programming experience in an object-oriented language such as Java, particularly backend services.
- Understanding of multithreading, garbage collection, and memory management.
- 4+ years of experience with MySQL or equivalent relational databases.
- Experience with REST and its fundamentals.
- Knowledge of Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and Tomcat.
- Knowledge of AWS, Redis, Elasticsearch, and Docker.
- Experience architecting, implementing, tuning, and debugging large cloud deployments.
- Demonstrated adherence to software engineering principles.
- Familiarity with Agile software development.
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases.
- Familiarity with network security, authentication, and authorization.
- Experience with enterprise SaaS.
